The singular craftsmanship of bubbled glass

Each creation is born from fire and breath, shaped by the time-honoured gestures of generations of master glassblowers. The bubble is no longer left to chance — it has become the unmistakable signature of our craftsmanship.

The origins of bubbled glass

It was here, in our workshop, that several glass innovations now recognised throughout the world were born. The art of bubbled glass was born here in 1956.

By capturing tiny bubbles of carbon dioxide within the material, our master glassmakers create a living glass, full of movement and character — vibrant and unmistakably alive.

This artisanal innovation paved the way for many creations. Among them, luminescent glass that glows after dark. Frosted glass, akin to opaline, that mimics frost. Or Écaille glass, which delicately fuses resin with glass.

This is how our Glassworks' signature was born: a masterful blend of craftsmanship and innovation bringing the warmth of the Mediterranean to everyday tables.

The art of hand-made, mouth-blown glass

Generation after generation, our master glassmakers carry on and pass down the art of mouth-blown glassmaking.

A craftsmanship recently recognised by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

La Verrerie de Biot®, a Living Heritage Company

Our Glassworks bears the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) label, an official distinction from the French State that honours French houses with exceptional craftsmanship passed down and preserved over time. Choosing our house means supporting a living, local and deeply human heritage.

The Biot Glass Ecomuseum

A member of the French Federation of Ecomuseums and Museums of Society, the Biot Glass Ecomuseum aims to highlight and promote the tradition of glassmaking.

Both a place of conservation and exhibition, but also of life and transmission of knowledge, the Ecomuseum's mission is to make this craft accessible and to ensure its continuity for years to come.

Bubbled Glass, the unique know-how of La Verrerie de Biot, is fully part of this heritage.

Iconic shapes

Whether for their history or the unseen complexity of their making, these pieces have shaped our story. These timeless creations have graced our tables for decades.

The chubby pitcher

The quintessential Provençal shape, reinvented in bubbled glass from the earliest days of our Glassworks — it has become an iconic creation embodying the conviviality of the French Riviera.

The Guédoufle

Or the Provençal name for the oil-and-vinegar cruet. Contrary to what one might think, it is not made of two parts assembled together but of a single ball of glass — which makes it a particularly challenging creation to produce.

Candle Holder

This tealight holder has lit up your evenings for decades and embodies the Mediterranean art of living.

An open-hearted workshop

Since its founding, the doors of our Glassworks have stood open. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors come to feel the heat of the furnaces and watch the dance of fire in our glassmakers' hands. Here, glassmaking is never hidden away — it is transformed before your eyes, carried by the glassmakers' breath. A living experience to understand the soul of artisanal glass and the signature of our House.
